So, I'm writing this paper for evolution class. It's to be written in the form of a popular science article, the sort of thing you'd find in a newspaper, written for the general public and all that. One of the requirements is a catchy headline, or at least an attempt at one. I'm writing about the recent discovery of a fossil of what is essentially a fish with legs.

There's got to be some kind of horrid pun I can use there. Right now I'm going with "Something Fishy in the Arctic" but there must be something better. Or worse, as the case may be.

Yay! I put that DVD on hold again, and this time the library is sending it. Now I don't have to lay siege to the Grand Rapids library.

The furnace at the house is not working. It's kinda cold. Last night I blew a fuse with a space heater. That was interesting. For some reason, my bedroom, half of the downstairs bedroom, and the kitchen light on the other side of the house are on the same circuit, so they all went off. The kitchen appliances and the living room (which is between the kitchen and the bedroom) stayed on. I put it down to the fact that this house was built before electricity. There's probably all sorts of bizarre wiring.

Now I shall write a paper for evolution class.

MCO application - finished and sent. Still need to write them an essay. A -new- essay. About how I'm so much better a candidate this time. Without using the excuse that I was insane last year, because apparently that looks bad.
Other colleges... yeah, I'm working on those. And still need to ask two people about writing letters of recommendation for me. *sigh* And then I have to take two exams on Thursday.

Also, the cat is stalking me. (His name is Loki, by the way.) Psycho stalker kitty.

...Oh yeah, I have to write a paper for next week, too. Stupid taking three 300-level biology classes. all with the examingness and the writingness. Must think of paper topic.

And I need a new user icon-y thingy. Because my hair doesn't look like that anymore.

And a danish. Someone get me a danish!

Sewing stuff, too. I have a truly disturbing amount of fabric that I bought and meant to make something with, but somehow never quite got around to it. And I'm tired of everyone having nicer ren-faire garb than me when I'm the one who made most of it! ;)

Oh, NOW I'm mad. The library canceled my hold. The bastards!

HOLD CANCELLATION NOTICE
Your request on the title listed below has been cancelled because
all of the libraries that own the item were unable to fill the
request. If you have questions or wish to re-request this title,
please contact your local library for assistance or use our online
catalog at http://lakenet.llcoop.org. Thank you.

TITLE:
The prisoner. Set 3 no man is just a number

What's that supposed to mean, unable to fill the request? The web catalog says it's checked out, so they should just wait until it comes back next week. Not cancel the hold. They BETTER not have lost it, or I'll... still be mad, I guess. I'd probably get in trouble if I went to Grand Rapids Main with a sword and started making demands. Always assuming I could -find- Grand Rapids Main, which is really the whole reason I put things on hold so they can deliver them to someplace I know how to find.

Maybe I'll have to get a job and money and things and then just buy the whole series on DVD.

We seem to have acquired a cat. Amber found her in a parking lot a few days ago, and she's cute, so, we have a cat. She's gray and black and stripy-ish. So far we haven't thought of a name. Also, she is easily distracted, clumsy, and talks to herself. So she fits in very well here. Pictures to follow if I ever find the digital camera.

Today, I cooked stir-fry for dinner. And it was awesome. I think it needed maybe more chicken, but it was still awesome. I mean, I cooked something. All by myself. I'm, like, an adult or something. Weird.

Lab today. I checked my plants from last week - none of them grew. It's kind of sad. Then we drove to the park and netted invertebrates from the river. Invertebrates and a couple of small, weird-looking fish. My lab partner refused to touch anything. Granted, they're kind of icky, but still.

Also, I am officially sane, and have the papers to prove it. (Well, okay, -I- don't have them, but that's what it says on my file. Says I'm "stable." So there are, in fact, papers.)

(I finally remembered my password. Yay.)

So, back at school, with computer and internet access again. I am living in a house off campus this year, and it is -awesome.- We have a closet under the stairs. I think we should turn it into a guest room.

I'm taking four classes this semester; cell biology, conservation biology, evolution, and accounting. The biology classes all seem like they'll be pretty interesting. I'm looking forward to the lab for conservation biology; we get to go on field trips. (Field trips to the park down the street, admittedly, but still, I'll take what I can get.) Accounting is just as boring as it sounds - actually, probably more. First day of class, the professor lectured for an hour about how accounting is -hard- to -learn- and you'll have to -read- the book, because it's like a -foreign language-, the -language- of -accounting-. And then he showed us the online supplementary materials, and got the sample quiz question wrong. Fun times.

I got an email from the school health center warning about a mumps outbreak in the Midwest.

...Who gets mumps? Has anyone actually ever met someone who's had mumps? I've never heard of any real people actually getting mumps.

Also, mumps is a funny word. Mumps mumps mumps!

Also also, job interview got rescheduled, room is... cleaner, library books are returned, and homework and spanish paper of DOOM is done.

I'm going to go make cookies now.
